Toposar Drug Interactions

Cyclosporine
Cyclosporine can significantly increase Toposar blood levels, which would increase your risk for potentially serious Toposar side effects. If you use these medicines together, your healthcare provider may choose to give you a lower Toposar dose.

CYP 3A4 Inducer Medications
The liver breaks down Toposar using enzymes known as CYP 3A4 enzymes, and medications known as CYP 3A4 inducers can increase the activity of these enzymes. Thus, combining Toposar with one of these drugs may decrease the level of Toposar in your bloodstream, making it less effective. Your healthcare provider may recommend you stop taking certain CYP 3A4 inducers before beginning Toposar treatment.

CYP 3A4 Inhibitor Medications
The liver breaks down Toposar using enzymes known as CYP 3A4 enzymes, and medications known as CYP 3A4 inhibitors can decrease the activity of these enzymes. Thus, combining Toposar with one of these drugs may increase the level of Toposar in your bloodstream, increasing your risk for side effects. Your healthcare provider may decrease your Toposar dose if you combine Toposar with a CYP 3A4 inhibitor.

Echinacea
Echinacea could make Toposar less effective. Do not take echinacea during Toposar treatment without first speaking with your healthcare provider.

Live Vaccinations
Live vaccines are vaccines that contain live viruses or bacteria. Because you are more prone to infections, you could become infected with the virus or bacteria used to make the vaccine if you receive a live vaccine during Toposar treatment. Also, live vaccines may be less effective in people using Toposar. In general, people receiving Toposar should not receive live vaccines. Therefore, you should talk to your healthcare provider before receiving a vaccination.
