Abnormal Scars and Pneumonectomy

Will I Have a Scar After a Pneumonectomy?

You will have a large scar on your chest after your pneumonectomy. Some people develop scars that are raised up and thicker than normal scars. These are called keloids, and they can be tender or painful for a long time after the surgery.

If you are worried about this, please talk to your doctor. Remember that how a scar looks has nothing to do with how well the surgery went. Also, be sure to tell your surgeon if you've ever had an abnormal scar in the past.
