Is Nicotrol NS a Prescription?
Nicotrol® NS (nicotine nasal spray) is a prescription drug used as part of a smoking-cessation program. It helps people quit smoking by reducing nicotine withdrawal symptoms, such as cravings. As a result, people who use the drug are often more successful at quitting smoking than those who are not taking anything.
Nicotrol NS comes in the form of a nasal spray that is administered into each nostril once or twice an hour, every hour. However, the medication should not be used more than 40 times in a day. Possible side effects include short-term nosebleeds, nasal irritation, and coughing.
