If you are trying to quit smoking, it may help to use Nicorette® Gum (nicotine gum). Although this medication is available over-the-counter (OTC), it may not be the best choice for some people. This medication comes in the form of a gum, which is chewed every one to eight hours for 12 weeks (or sometimes longer). This may cause problems for some people, as the gum can stick to and potentially damage dental work, including fillings, dental caps, and dentures.
Nicorette Gum can also injure the teeth and mouth. The excessive chewing required to use Nicorette Gum can cause pain and soreness of the joint that connects the lower jawbone to the skull. Talk to your healthcare provider if you experience any problems with your jaw or teeth while using Nicorette Gum.
