Lung Cancer Treatment Options
The usual treatment options for lung cancer include surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and photodynamic therapy. In many cases, a combination of these will be recommended. The plan your healthcare provider comes up with will depend on several factors, including:
- The type of lung cancer
- The size, location, and extent of the tumor
- Your general health.
Despite what you may have thought, treatment for lung cancer doesn't begin immediately upon receiving a diagnosis. This will give you time to think about your various options and possibly even get a second opinion. (Your insurance company may even require this.) Do not be alarmed at this delay -- it won't be that long and will not make a difference to your overall prognosis.
