Cancer Drug Iressa

If you have been diagnosed with non-small cell lung cancer, you may receive a chemotherapy drug called Iressa® (gefitinib). Specifically, this product is reserved for use in people who are already taking it and are benefiting from it, or people who have benefited from Iressa treatment in the past.
Iressa is a type of tyrosine kinase inhibitor and works by preventing cells from forming correctly, which interferes with how the cells grow and multiply. Research on this drug has shown that Iressa generally does not help people with small-cell lung cancer to live longer; therefore, the manufacturer of the drug no longer manufactures Iressa for use in the United States.
