Hycamtin for Ovarian Cancer
Ovarian cancer is a disease in which cancerous cells form in the tissues of the ovaries. Women with this type of cancer have many treatment options available to them, including:
- Surgery (see Ovarian Cancer Surgery)
- Radiation therapy (see Ovarian Cancer Radiation)
- Chemotherapy (see Ovarian Cancer Chemotherapy).
Many women receive more than one type of treatment. Hycamtin IV is approved to treat metastatic ovarian cancer as a second-line treatment after other chemotherapy regimens have failed. Oral Hycamtin capsules are not approved for this use.
Hycamtin for Cervical Cancer
Cervical cancer is a disease in which cancer cells form in the tissues of the cervix. In order to treat cervical cancer, it is important to know the stage of cancer that you have.
The stages of cervical cancer include:
- Stage 0
- Stage I
- Stage II
- Stage III
- Stage IV
There are many different types of cervical cancer treatment, which vary based on the type of cervical cancer. In general, treatment can include:
- Radiation therapy.
Hycamtin is approved for treatment in combination with cisplatin (Platinol®) to treat stage IV-B (cancer that has spread beyond the pelvis and pelvic lymph nodes to other places in the body), recurrent, or persistent cervical cancer that is not likely to be cured by surgery or radiation.
